Throughout 2013, US suspicious mobile traffic increased 30%

NEW YORK CITY — March 5, 2014 – Solve Media issued its Bot Traffic Market Advisory today, revealing that suspicious web activity in the United States grew 40% during the calendar year 2013 with suspicious mobile activity increasing 30% annually in the United States, as well. The market advisory concludes the first year of quarter-over-quarter analysis from Solve Media of global suspicious web and mobile activity. The resulting annual data informs publishers and advertisers as they prioritize investments in anti-fraud technologies.

“With the holiday season comes an increase in advertising spend. It’s not surprising that there was a spike in suspicious traffic in Q4. With US advertising budgets expected to top $182B by 2015, brands and publishers must both commit to adopting fraud prevention measures now. Aggressive botnet operators are not only stealing marketers’ hard fought budgets, they’re also creating false results on campaign performance. This inaccurate data is being utilized to drive future optimization decisions, compounding the problem,” said Ari Jacoby, CEO of Solve Media.

In Q4 2013, suspicious web activity in the United States spiked to 61% from 51% in Q3. Globally, Southeast Asia, China and Eastern Europe had the highest levels of bot traffic - specifically, Singapore and Taiwan in Southeast Asia, and Poland, Lithuania and Romania in Eastern Europe.

“As an agency, we want and need our customers to trust that we are serving their ads to real humans that will help them achieve their goals,” said Dave Martin, SVP of Media Services at Ignited. “In order to deliver that, we work hard to verify the results of each campaign we run and ensure our customers that the audience they’re getting in front of is not just relevant but is in-fact made up of real people who are capable of engaging with the brand and taking action.”

Solve Media, a leader in the security and digital advertising industries, currently reviews a quarterly average of over 700 million human verifications across more than 8,400 global publishers. Solve Media’s anti-bot CAPTCHA security platform specifically addresses bot traffic affecting publishers, advertisers and agencies by authenticating that audiences are, in fact, human.
